                                             By Thomas Miller

Thomas sat on the bridge looking out into the water. He heard a faint song, a hum, from a lost love. He remembered the song, the hum that she used to sing to him to go to bed. It was a comforting feeling, but it was accompanied by sorrow and grief.

He looked down into the water, where the river stretched out before him, the ripples of the water reflecting the fading sunlight. He wondered what had become of her, of the woman who had meant so much to him. He had thought they would be together forever, yet here he was, alone and grieving.

He closed his eyes and thought of her. He remembered the way she used to hum the lullaby to him, the way she used to smile, the way her eyes shone with love. He remembered the warmth he felt when she touched him, the peace he felt when she sang to him.

The memories brought both joy and sadness. He felt a sense of longing and regret, as if he had done something wrong and was not worthy of her love. He thought of how things could have been different if he had been more present, if he had been able to protect her.

He shook his head and opened his eyes. He had to move on, even if he did not know what the future would bring. He had to keep going, to take care of himself and honor her memory.

He stood up and looked out at the river one last time. He spoke quietly into the air.

"Goodbye my love. I will always remember you, and I will always love you."

He turned away and began to walk, but he could not help the tears that slid down his cheeks. He had lost something he could never get back, and he was left with only the faint song and hum of her lullaby ringing in his ears
